Unless you have been living under a particularly comfortable rock (spacious, good natural light, no signal), you will already know that a shiny new edition of Warhammer 40,000 has arrived. 11th Edition is here, the launch box is called Armageddon, and it is every bit as brutal and glorious as the name suggests.
A World That Has Never Known Peace
For those who want the grimdark context: Armageddon is one of the most fought-over worlds in the entire 41st millennium. A vast hive world choked with ash wastes and towering industrial cities, it has been a crucible of war for generations.
The Second War for Armageddon began in 941.M41 when the Ork Warlord Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka brought his Waaagh! crashing down on the planet. Imperial Governor Herman von Strab proved utterly unequal to the task, and it fell to Commissar Sebastian Yarrick, exiled to Hades Hive by the incompetent governor, to hold the line. Yarrick's defence became legendary. So infuriated was Ghazghkull by the hive's defiance that he committed more and more of his forces against it personally, while Commander Dante of the Blood Angels led the broader Imperial counter-offensive that eventually drove the Orks from the planet. Ghazghkull was not defeated. He was merely waiting.
Fifty-seven years to the day after his first invasion, on the Feast of the Emperor's Ascension, Ghazghkull returned. The Third War for Armageddon saw an even greater Waaagh! descend on the planet, with Yarrick once again commanding the defence. A coalition of Space Marines from over twenty chapters fought alongside the Astra Militarum in a brutal war of attrition. Eventually Ghazghkull withdrew of his own accord, uninterested in grinding stalemates. He had grander designs. Yarrick and the Black Templars followed in pursuit, determined to end him.
They never did.
Now, in 11th Edition, the Fifth War for Armageddon erupts. The lore picks up after the events of The Return of Yarrick, with Imperial forces already in dire straits. The Ork vanguard, led by the Speedboss Wazdakka Gutsmek, has already made landfall. Ghazghkull's main force is not far behind. A desperate plea from Yarrick triggers Operation Imperator, a coalition of Space Marine chapters surging toward the beleaguered planet. The Blood Angels, with their long and tragic history on Armageddon, answer the call once more alongside strike forces from the Salamanders, Ultramarines, and Space Wolves.
Armageddon burns again. And the Orks have never been happier.

How Are the Wildlings Preparing?
A new edition is always an exciting time. New armies to plan, new projects to paint, new rules to get your head around, and inevitably a new model you absolutely do not need but will definitely buy. But it also means that as a club there is some prep work to do. Here is what we have been getting on with behind the scenes.
Terrain: The Battlefield is Changing
One of the biggest changes to the new edition is how battlefields are built. The old UKTC L-shaped ruins are not disappearing entirely (we are not mad), but the new standard is terrain plates and we are embracing it from day one.
From the moment the new edition launches, we will have 10 sets of terrain plates ready to go, with plenty of terrain pieces on top to make every table feel properly thematic and immersive. There are further plans in the pipeline too, and yes, some pieces from the infamous doom cupboard will be making their way to new homes at the bring and buy. The headline is simple: rock up on day one and play 40k new edition exactly as intended.

Events: June and July
Whatever your flavour of the hobby, we are putting on events in June and July to match. Whether you are a competitive grinder, a casual narrative player, or somewhere in between, there is something here for you.
Build and Army Paint event run by Steven on 20 June. Perfect if you are cracking open a new project for the new edition and want company and guidance while you do it.
A non-meta 1300 point singles tournament. Fun lists, relaxed atmosphere, good games.
A 750 points per player doubles event. Bring a mate, paint your halves, and argue about target priority together.
A narrative or slow grow league. Build your force and your story together over time, game by game.
The regular competitive league returns. For those who want the full ranked experience and are ready to throw down in earnest.
Full details and sign-up links for all events can be found on our events page. Keep an eye there as more information drops over the coming weeks.

The June Bring and Buy
New edition means new projects. New projects mean you need shelf space. The June bring and buy is your chance to clear out the old, make room for the inevitable new boxes, and maybe pick something up you did not expect.
We will also be selling some terrain pieces from the doom cupboard to make way for the new terrain projects, so if you are after scenery at a fair price this is the place to be. Any proceeds go directly back into the club.
