ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT
West Allotment Wildlings is committed to making our website accessible to all individuals, including those with disabilities. We strive to ensure that our website provides an inclusive and enjoyable experience for everyone, regardless of their abilities.
West Allotment Wildlings CIC is committed to ensuring that our website, wawildlings.co.uk, is as accessible as possible to all visitors, including those with disabilities or who use assistive technologies.
This statement explains our current accessibility status, what we are doing to improve, any known limitations, and how to contact us if you experience difficulties.
1. Our Commitment to Accessibility
We believe that everyone should be able to access information about our club and its activities regardless of disability, age, or the technology they use. We are a community-focused organisation and inclusivity is central to our values — this extends to our digital presence as well as our in-person events and activities.
We aim to make wawildlings.co.uk conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA as far as is reasonably practicable for a volunteer-run community CIC using the Wix website platform.
2. Technical Information About This Website
Website URL: wawildlings.co.uk
Platform: Wix (wix.com)
Hosting: Wix cloud infrastructure
Organisation type: Volunteer-run community CIC
Our website is built on the Wix platform, which provides a range of built-in accessibility features. The extent to which we can customise or enhance accessibility is partly dependent on what the Wix platform supports. We have worked within these constraints to make our content as accessible as possible.
3. What We Have Done to Improve Accessibility
We have taken the following steps to improve the accessibility of our website:
3.1 Content and structure
-
Used clear, plain English throughout the website to make content easy to understand
-
Applied a logical heading structure across all pages (Home, About, Games, Groups, Events, Blog, Contact) to aid navigation by screen reader users
-
Ensured page titles are descriptive and meaningful for each page
-
Written descriptive link text where possible, avoiding vague phrases such as 'click here'
-
Structured event listings with consistent, clearly labelled information including dates, times, venues, and formats
-
Kept blog posts structured with headings and paragraphs to aid readability
3.2 Visual design
-
Used colour contrast ratios that aim to meet WCAG 2.1 AA requirements for text legibility
-
Ensured text is readable at standard browser zoom levels
-
Avoided using colour alone to convey important information
-
Used readable font sizes throughout the site
3.3 Images and media
-
Added alternative text (alt text) to images used across the website wherever possible, including event and blog imagery
-
Event photographs and hobby images are described in context within surrounding content
3.4 Forms and interaction
-
The contact form on our website uses clearly labelled fields
-
Error messages and form validation are designed to be descriptive and helpful
3.5 Navigation
-
The site navigation menu is consistent across all pages
-
The website is navigable using a keyboard for most standard functions
-
Page content is structured so that the most important information appears early
4. Known Limitations
We are a small, volunteer-run community CIC and our website is maintained by club members rather than professional web developers. Despite our best efforts, we are aware of the following current limitations:
-
Some older blog posts or event pages may not have fully optimised alt text on all images — we are working to address this retrospectively
-
Embedded third-party content (such as social media feeds or external event links) may not meet full WCAG 2.1 AA compliance, as this content is outside our direct control
-
Some interactive features provided by the Wix platform may have accessibility constraints that are determined by Wix rather than by us — we encourage users affected by these to contact Wix directly or to contact us so we can assist
-
Video content, if published on the website or linked from YouTube, may not always have captions or transcripts. We will aim to include these for any significant video content going forward
-
PDF documents linked from the website (such as event information sheets) may not always be fully accessible — where possible we will provide equivalent HTML or plain text versions on request
We are committed to reducing these limitations over time and welcome feedback on any specific barriers you encounter.
5. Platform Notes (Wix)
Our website is hosted and built on the Wix platform. Wix publishes its own accessibility conformance information and is actively working towards WCAG 2.1 AA compliance across its platform features.
For accessibility issues that appear to be related to the Wix platform itself (rather than our specific content), you may also find it helpful to review Wix's own accessibility statement at wix.com, or to contact Wix support directly.
We will continue to monitor Wix platform updates that improve accessibility and apply relevant improvements to our site where they are available.
6. Conformance Status
We aim for wawildlings.co.uk to be partially conformant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. Partial conformance means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard, primarily due to the limitations noted in Section 4 above.
We use the term 'partially conformant' in line with the standard definitions used by the UK Government's accessibility guidance, and in recognition that we are a small community organisation working to continuously improve.
7. Requesting Accessible Content and Getting Help
If you need information from our website in a different format, or if you are having difficulty accessing any part of our site, please contact us. We will do our best to provide the information you need in a suitable alternative format. Examples of what we can help with include:
-
Providing event or club information in plain text or by email
-
Describing image content that you are unable to access
-
Providing a readable version of any document linked from the website
-
Answering questions by phone or email rather than requiring online form submission
To request accessible content or to report an accessibility problem, please contact us using the details below. We aim to respond to accessibility requests within 5 working days.
8. Feedback and Contact
We welcome feedback on the accessibility of our website. If you find any barriers to access that we have not addressed, or if you have suggestions for how we can improve, please let us know.

9. Enforcement and Escalation
If you are not satisfied with our response to an accessibility request, or if you feel we have not handled a complaint adequately, you have the right to escalate to the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), which is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 in England.
Note: The full legal requirements of the 2018 Accessibility Regulations apply primarily to public sector bodies. As a CIC operating as a community club, West Allotment Wildlings CIC is not currently a public sector body under these regulations. However, we voluntarily publish this statement as a commitment to our community and as good practice.

10. Review and Updates
We will review this Accessibility Statement at least annually, or sooner if significant changes are made to the website. The date of the last review is shown at the top of this document.
As a small volunteer-run CIC, we are continually learning and improving. We are committed to making accessibility improvements as our website grows and our capacity allows.
This statement was prepared in May 2025 and applies to wawildlings.co.uk.
