Something new is rolling into the Wildlings, and it's got tank tracks, oil-fired engines, and a pilot strapped in behind the controls.

We're delighted to announce that West Allotment Wildlings is teaming up with Of Oil and Iron, the dieselpunk mech skirmish wargame currently blazing through its Kickstarter campaign.

We'll be painting the models, running the game system at the club, and helping bring this brilliant new setting to the North East, with Different Not Less (DNL Models) supporting us all the way.

What Is Of Oil and Iron?

Of Oil and Iron is a tabletop skirmish wargame created by Scott Hadley of Scoutsifer Studio, set in the Smoglands: a scorched, industrial wasteland where the corporations won and the rest of the world paid the price. Unchecked industry drowned the skies in soot and fire in an event known as the Smogfall, and now oil, iron, and human lives are the only currency that matters.

The game is built entirely around Rigs, hulking walking war machines cobbled together from mining frames, oil-rig lifters, and construction engines, then reforged into weapons of war. Each Rig is piloted by an Ironclad, and every model is a fully 3D-printable, modular kit, so you can mix and match engines, weapons, and upgrades to build a machine that's entirely your own.

Five factions currently vie for control of the Smoglands, and each has a very different flavour on the tabletop:

The Krim Corporation - disciplined, efficient, and built for mass deployment.

Nox Industries - heavy, brutal, and armed to the teeth.

Triton Engineering - insular survivors who build their Rigs from salvaged diving suits and oil platform wreckage.

Arcus Technologies - precision engineering powered by arc-reactors and scientific ambition.

Freegear Coalition - rebels and deserters fielding scrappy, mismatched Rigs built from whatever they can salvage.

List building has no fixed points system either. Instead, every weapon and piece of equipment has an Iron cost, and your Rig can only carry so much before it starts to slow down, so every loadout choice is a genuine trade-off between firepower and mobility. It's already turned heads in the community, with a glowing writeup from Goonhammer and a presence at UK Games Expo this year.

Why We're Getting Involved

This is exactly the kind of project the Wildlings loves getting behind: an independent designer with a genuinely fresh idea, a strong visual identity, and a game system built to be painted and played by a community, not just admired in a display cabinet.

We'll be picking up Rigs to paint, learning the rules, and running demo games and campaign nights at the club over the coming months, with Different Not Less lending their support to help us get set up. Whether you love the aesthetic, fancy something different from your usual 28mm fare, or just want to see some genuinely striking mech models up close, keep an eye on our events page and Discord for painting sessions and first games.
